Hi, I'm Weston
Developer and inventor, building at the intersection of software and the physical world.

About
Software pulled me in through a nontraditional path. I studied petroleum engineering, but my first programming class made it clear that building with code was the better fit. Before making the switch, a lot of my free time went to writing Python scripts and teaching myself software development.
That path took me from oil and gas into robotics, where I became a Forward Deployed Software Engineer. I've worked across the stack, from data acquisition systems and database design to frontend web apps. My work on autonomous scanning software helped lay the technical foundation for Gecko's Navy capability, now covered by a contract with a $71M ceiling. I'm also an inventor on a granted patent for a laser-tracker localization prism design.
Most of my time is spent in Python, TypeScript, and React. The part I enjoy most is solving messy problems in unfamiliar territory and making progress with whatever tools are available. Outside of work, life looks a lot like building things, running, traveling, and spending time with family.
Experience
Forward Deployed Software Engineer
Jan 2022 – Present
Gecko Robotics, Inc., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Led end-to-end development of Gecko's EMAT inspection software stack, taking the system from handheld prototype to production robotics and contributing to Gecko's Navy inspection capability, now covered by a contract with a $71M ceiling.
- Built the data-to-deliverable workflow for Navy deck inspections, enabling validation in existing internal tools and contributing to team outcomes across multiple inspections: 150+ fewer delay days and $10M+ in avoided unnecessary planned repairs.
- Owned the acquisition application used by 20+ operators and engineers, shipping field-driven features including live ML scan validation, localized scan visualization, and automatic stall recovery.
- Co-invented a patented passive localization prism that replaced powered active prisms and was used on Gecko's Navy inspections.
- Deployed prototype inspection capabilities in high-stakes field environments, partnering with operators, product strategists, and port engineers to adapt workflows in real time and preserve scope under hardware failures.
Field Engineer / Robot Specialist
Mar 2020 – Jan 2022
Gecko Robotics, Inc., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
- Engineered a proof-of-concept surface-scanning robot for laser profilometry using off-the-shelf components and custom PyQt applications.
- Became a go-to engineer for ultrasonic testing inspections and diagnosing issues across Gecko's robotic platforms.
- Built cloud automation in AWS Lambda with Python to streamline ticket creation for robot issues reported during field operations.
Field Fracking Engineer
Jan 2019 – Mar 2020
ProFrac Services, Smithfield, Pennsylvania
- Managed chemical and sand systems on location, from calibration and quality checks to inventory tracking and daily reorders.
- Served as the onsite company representative, working with the service supervisor and customer while managing frac software and troubleshooting field issues.
- Supported over $15M in services and handled reporting, pricing, and timekeeping across stages.
